On May 13, 2026, Beijing intensified its security protocols and prepared key venues for the impending arrival of U.S. President Donald Trump. He is slated for high-stakes talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping during a summit later this week.
While official confirmations remain elusive, reports from South China Morning Post indicate President Trump is expected at the five-star Four Seasons Hotel in northeastern Beijing. His delegation is reportedly booked into the nearby Kempinski Hotel Beijing Yansha Centre.
A senior editor at South China Morning Post, Alcott Wei, noted that both hotels are unavailable for booking from Tuesday through Thursday. Two anonymous U.S. officials also confirmed to South China Morning Post that Trump's stay at the Four Seasons is anticipated for Wednesday evening, with other delegates at the Kempinski. These sources reportedly commenced preparations at the Four Seasons on Monday.
The Four Seasons Hotel Beijing, which opened in 2012, is conveniently located just 700 meters (0.4 miles) from the U.S. embassy. For his 2017 visit, Trump chose the St Regis Beijing. The Kempinski Hotel Beijing Yansha Centre previously hosted French President Emmanuel Macron in 2023.
Our take: The reported choice of the Four Seasons for Trump's 2026 visit to Beijing signals a distinct shift from his 2017 lodging. Beyond the security logistics, the hotel selection itself becomes a subtle diplomatic signal, reflecting evolving preferences and potentially, strategic considerations. Both properties offer distinct amenities and prestige, yet the Four Seasons, a newer property, might offer updated facilities or security advantages. The tight booking windows across both hotels underscore the scale of the security and logistical undertaking for such a high-level summit, regardless of official announcements.
