Hilton and ORIX Real Estate Corporation announced June 13, 2026, a groundbreaking agreement: the Conrad Hotels & Resorts brand will debut in Kobe, Hyogo Prefecture. Slated for a 2030 opening, Conrad Kobe will be the region's first luxury hotel and a centerpiece of a mixed-use complex developing on the former Kobe City Hall Building No. 2 site.

This move signals a notable geographic diversification for Japan's luxury hospitality sector, traditionally concentrated in Tokyo and Osaka. As Travel And Tour World reports, this expansion significantly elevates Kobe's luxury hotel landscape.

Conrad Kobe will occupy the upper floors of a new high-rise within the Kobe City Hall redevelopment. Its direct underground railway connection to Sannomiya-Hanadokeimae Station ensures seamless access across Kobe and the broader Kansai region.

Strategically positioned between Kobe's revitalizing waterfront and its central business and cultural districts, the hotel offers direct access to key attractions. These include the historic Former Foreign Settlement, the vibrant Nankinmachi (Kobe Chinatown), and a waterfront zone poised for ongoing leisure and commercial investment.

The 136 rooms and suites will reflect Conrad's signature blend of modern elegance and local cultural influences. Guests will have access to an all-day dining restaurant, a signature fine-dining venue, a lobby lounge and bar, an executive lounge, an indoor pool, a spa and wellness center, and a fully equipped fitness facility.

For events, the property will feature a 500-square-meter ballroom and multiple meeting rooms, catering to international conferences and high-end social events. This positions Conrad Kobe as a strong player in the growing MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, Exhibitions) tourism market across Japan.

Our take: Kobe's selection for a Conrad property underscores a growing trend of spreading luxury hospitality beyond Japan's established global gateways. This project indicates confidence in regional urban centers as emerging destinations for discerning travelers and international business, marking Kobe as a city to watch.
