A new report, "The Phuket Luxury Report," from C9 Hotelworks outlines the island's dramatic evolution from a popular beach destination to a significant luxury residential market. Released this week, the report was unveiled at the "LivePhuket: A Global Luxury Lifestyle Destination" event, co-hosted with Property Guru International (Thailand).
Bill Barnett, Managing Director of C9 Hotelworks, highlighted key indicators of this transformation, pointing out that Phuket is the birthplace of two global luxury hospitality brands: Aman Resorts and Banyan Group. According to Hospitality Net — Latest News, the island now boasts assets like a private jet terminal, four international-standard marinas for superyachts, 13 international schools, and a growing number of top-tier hospitals. Five ultra-luxury hotels reportedly command average room rates exceeding USD 1,000 per night.
The report also spotlights the foundational presence of Laguna Phuket, a 1,000-acre integrated community developed by Banyan Group. This sprawling development, drawing one million annual visitors, includes eight hotels, an award-winning golf course, a wellness clinic, an international pre-school, and 3,000 private residences. Another significant project, Gardens of Eden, a luxury well-being space in Bangtao, is garnering substantial interest from a new generation of investors, contributing to a top-tier real estate sector valued at over USD 10 billion (THB 337 billion), as reported by Hospitality Net — Latest News.
The "LivePhuket" event brought together industry leaders to discuss this luxury boom, covering topics ranging from insights from developers like Laguna Resorts and Gardens of Eden, to the impact of luxury brands represented by Central Pattana, Mercedes-Benz Phuket, and Bangkok Hospital Phuket. The rise of Michelin-rated cuisine in Phuket was also a key discussion point, featuring prominent chefs and moderated by Sumi Soorian, Senior Advisor to the Phuket Hotels Association.
Our take: Phuket's trajectory is a case study in strategic development. The investment in infrastructure, high-quality amenities, and a diverse range of luxury offerings has skillfully leveraged the island's natural appeal. This comprehensive approach is what truly distinguishes it from other emerging luxury markets.
