Finally, a stonking new benchmark for London’s luxury wellness scene has arrived. It’s called Six Senses Place and you’ll find it in Bayswater, in the former Whiteleys, where £1.5 billion has transformed an Edwardian shopping mall into a sparkling 109-room Six Senses London hotel and 139 apartments.

The hotel itself is pretty darn fabulous — not stuffy or grand like some of the grown-up places in Mayfair or Knightsbridge. This is Bayswater, after all: the last bit of real estate surrounding Hyde Park that goes for less than £2,000 a square foot. So the tone is younger, cooler, less formal. The urban-jungle lobby is stuffed with more than 1,000 plants — including two 80ft eucalyptus trees — and around the original [Whiteleys](https://www.thetimes.com/life-style/luxury/article/whiteleys-bayswater-15-million-pound-flat-in-a-former-department-store-times-luxury-lph8hptcj) spiral staircase there are comfy velvet sofas, a patisserie, courtyard bar and restaurant. Below this, on the lower ground floor, is a 2,300 sq m spa, a whopping blond-wood gym, a 20m pool with sauna and cold plunge — and, most impressively, London’s first public magnesium pool (the kip after a dip in that pool is spiritual).

But it’s Six Senses Place, the social wellness club spanning the entire first floor, that really makes me growl “Phwoar!” Every wellbeing need is taken care of under one (iconically domed) roof. Instead of having a longevity doctor in Harley Street, a local gym membership, facialist, and contrast-therapy and recovery-suite membership dotted across town, everything is in one building, with all the medical and beauty dots joined up.

Each member is under the supervision of the medical director, Dr Mohammed Enayat, a GP, TedX speaker and the founder of Hum2n, the physician-led longevity and personalised medicine clinic in nearby Chelsea. “Our mission continues to be transforming how medicine approaches ageing, shifting focus from treating disease to engineering precision plans for lifelong health,” Enayat says.
