Outrigger Hospitality Group announced the opening of its newest Thailand property, the Outrigger Phi Phi Island Resort, on May 7, 2026. This addition expands Outrigger's presence in Thailand, joining existing properties in Koh Samui, Khao Lak, and Phuket. Located within Hat Noppharat Thara-Mu Ko Phi Phi National Park, the resort is set on a secluded stretch of coastline where towering limestone cliffs meet pristine white-sand beaches and jade-green waters.
Access to the resort is exclusively by boat, underscoring its integration into a national park known for strict development controls and untouched natural beauty. Guests arrive directly onto the sand, immediately immersed in the Andaman's expansive surroundings.
The 63 suites and villas draw heavily from "Nit Thra," a Thai philosophy centered on restful living. Interiors feature handcrafted furnishings, organic textiles, and woven motifs inspired by local craft traditions. Accommodation options include the Hilltop Ocean View Pool Villa, boasting a private infinity pool and panoramic sea views; the Beachfront Pool Villa, situated directly on the sand; and the Family Garden Villa, nestled within lush tropical gardens.
Culinary offerings at the resort's Mala Kitchen adhere to "Samrub Thai," a Southern Thai approach focused on balancing taste, texture, and tradition. The menu utilizes regional spices, fresh produce, and local coastal ingredients, prepared by chefs deeply connected to the local food culture. The Edgewater Bar & Grill, positioned at the water's edge, serves fresh local seafood, aromatic curries, and tropical cocktails, creating a natural setting for sunset drinks and extended evenings.
The surrounding national park is a marine biodiversity hotspot in Southeast Asia. Guests can participate in PADI-certified diving excursions to explore vibrant coral formations with sightings of sea turtles, manta rays, and reef sharks. The resort also facilitates eco-sensitive boat trips to less-visited islands and coves, and long-tail boat picnics through mangrove channels. On land, amenities include private Thai cooking classes, non-motorized water sports, and bead-making sessions, reflecting ancient island crafts. Zeavola Spa focuses on Southern Thai wellness practices and local botanicals. Families are catered to with The Coral Kids Club and a dedicated teen zone. For those wishing to explore further, Tonsai Village, Phi Phi’s lively hub, is a short boat ride away.
The Urak Lawoi people, indigenous inhabitants of these islands for centuries, influenced the resort's design and guest reception. Each arriving guest receives a handcrafted bead bracelet, a gesture rooted in Urak Lawoi tradition, emphasizing the community's integral role in the resort's identity. Guests can delve deeper into this heritage through bead-making sessions that explore the craft's historical trade routes.
The resort's construction prioritized local, organic materials and a design that maximizes natural light and ventilation, minimizes waste, and protects the ecosystem. Operating within a national park mandates adherence to high environmental standards, with the explicit goal of guests leaving "nothing behind except footprints in the sand."
Our take: Outrigger's commitment to cultural integration and ecological stewardship within a national park setting is ambitious. The real test will be how effectively they balance luxury tourism with genuine environmental preservation and community engagement. The emphasis on indigenous Urak Lawoi traditions and sustainable design suggests a thoughtful approach, but maintaining those standards in practice is where the true value lies.
