This week, Belmond announced that celebrated filmmaker Baz Luhrmann and his collaborator, Catherine Martin, have designed "Celia" — a private dining and events carriage for the British Pullman train. The Academy Award-winning duo, known for their elaborate visual storytelling in films like _Moulin Rouge!_ and _The Great Gatsby_, have applied their artistic vision to an original 1932 Pullman carriage.
The collaboration with Belmond aims to translate Luhrmann and Martin's cinematic expertise into a real-world, immersive experience. According to Forbes contributor Kissa Castaneda, the husband-and-wife team were tasked with leveraging their storytelling prowess and discerning taste to reimagine the carriage.
Upon its launch in summer 2026, Celia will feature a cocktail bar, lounge, and a dining and entertainment area built to host up to 12 guests. Initial routes will depart from London’s Victoria Station, taking passengers on British Pullman’s various journeys, including those to Oxford and Bath.
Our take: Belmond's strategy here is clear: leverage a high-profile design collaboration to infuse a classic luxury offering with contemporary cultural cachet. The British Pullman, already an icon, gains a new dimension of bespoke artistry. This move positions Belmond not just as a purveyor of historical elegance but as a canvas for creative visionaries.
