Roland Fasel will assume the role of President at Capella Hotel Group on April 6, 2026. This appointment, announced March 9, 2026, brings a seasoned luxury hospitality executive with over 30 years of international experience to the fore as Capella targets significant global expansion.

Fasel’s career includes leadership positions at some of the industry's most distinguished brands. Most recently, as Group Chief Operating Officer at Maybourne Hotel Group, he oversaw an iconic collection including Claridge's, The Connaught, and The Berkeley. Prior to Maybourne, Fasel spent six years as Chief Operating Officer at Aman Resorts, where he managed global operations during a period of considerable expansion, overseeing openings like Amanyangyun, Aman Kyoto, and the flagship Aman New York, as Hospitality Net notes.

His experience also extends to general manager roles, notably at Badrutt's Palace in St. Moritz, where he spearheaded an $80 million repositioning project. Fasel was also instrumental in the launch of the Dorchester Collection, serving as General Manager of The Dorchester for nine years and as Regional Director UK.

At Capella, Fasel is tasked with maintaining operational excellence and brand integrity across both Capella Hotels and Resorts and Patina Hotels & Resorts. His primary focus will be spearheading the group's accelerated growth, aiming to double the current portfolio by 2030. Capella Hotels and Resorts has been recognized as Travel + Leisure's World's Best Hotel Brand for three consecutive years (2023-2025). The group currently operates 12 hotels, six of which hold Forbes Five-Star ratings, with upcoming openings slated for the Middle East and Europe.

Our take: Capella's strategic move to bring in a leader with Fasel's pedigree underscores their commitment to aggressive yet controlled expansion within the ultra-luxury segment. His track record at Maybourne and Aman suggests a focus on brand preservation alongside growth, a critical balance for high-end properties. The challenge will be scaling without diluting the distinct Capella and Patina identities, especially as they venture into new, competitive markets. This appointment signals a robust play for market share, backed by a proven operator.
