I have always loved the ocean. There is something cathartic about the ebb and flow of the water, waves crashing and the surf foaming at your feet. It mirrors life. Enjoy it as if no one is watching. Combining that with a luxurious retreat in paradise-like surroundings makes it both romantic and spiritual. My trip to Four Seasons Resorts Maldives at Landaa Giraavaru and Four Seasons Resorts Maldives at Kuda Huraa was exactly that. A week with myself that awakened a side of me that's been life-altering and deeply moving. The warmth and hospitality was unmatched. There were smiles all around and the wind in my hair and the white sand at my feet felt grounding. I dug my feet as deep as I could into the sand to feel its anchor. It shifted something inside me. I have learnt to look at life through a different lens. One where peace is paramount.

At Four Seasons Resorts Maldives at Kuda Huraa, I tried surfing for the first time and failed miserably. But my instructor never judged. As he and I sat in the ocean, just feeling familiar with its strength and balance, I felt seen. At the Marine Discovery Centre, I met Artemis, an adult female Hawksbill who was admitted because she got entangled in a fishing line and had chronic buoyancy syndrome. She is unreleasable. Artemis is quite a star, especially with the kids who love to see her swim gleefully in her reservoir.

She was happy despite the physical limitations and served as an example of how love and care can make such a world of difference.
