We cover a lot of ground in this edit. A medical retreat in the Austrian Tyrol, a medieval monastery in Belgium and a remote farm on Iceland’s Troll Peninsula - these are the best spa hotels in Europe on our radar right now.
Each one is a spa destination in its own right, and we’ll be adding more next month - but if you’re looking for the best luxury spa hotels in Europe to book for autumn, start here. And if mountain wellness is more your thing, don’t miss our guide to the [best spa hotels in the Alps](https://www.redonline.co.uk/travel/a73555990/spa-hotels-in-the-alps/).
When a [spa day in London](https://www.redonline.co.uk/travel/g505536/best-spas-in-london/) won’t cut it, Park Igls is a place worth knowing about. Set in the Tyrolean village of Igls near Innsbruck, this is a medical retreat with an impressive 72 per cent returning guest rate. The team includes GPs, therapists, sports scientists, psychologists and massage therapists, many of whom have been here for over 20 years.
Park Igls follows the Modern Mayr method, an evolution of Dr FX Mayr’s original detox principles, updated to include protein, exercise and self-discovery. Every guest receives a personalised dietary plan. One habit that changes your relationship with food permanently: chew every mouthful 40 times. It sounds punishing but is actually revelatory.

The De-Stress programme adds craniosacral therapy, heated moor compresses and talking therapy, while the activity schedule, available to everyone on a retreat, combines evening harp relaxation and morning hikes. If your doctor puts you on the full diet, you’re in for a treat as Chef Markus Sorg’s kitchen, which runs on local fish, meat and seasonal vegetables, manages to make a medical dietary menu something you’d happily choose to eat. For those new to medical retreats, the Detox Classic programme combines five massages over seven days with a full schedule of medical relaxation and exercise activities.

Arriving at Hubertus Mountain Refugio feels more like stepping into _The Sound of Music_ than checking into a wellness hotel. Acid-green Allgäu hills, cowbells in the crisp air, a fire to gather around, and an owner, Marc Traubel, who is as likely to be pressing cake on a guest as leading a 6am sunrise hike. Less than two miles from the Austrian border, this 66-room Alpine hotel holds a Michelin Key and a spa rooted in Ayurvedic healing.

The 12 treatment rooms include couples’ facilities, and the treatments themselves — try the Marma point massage and Shirodhara oil pouring — bring Asian traditions into an Alpine setting. The sound bath is not to be underestimated: even those who consider themselves easily bored tend to fall asleep within minutes and wake up from what feels like the best nap of their lives. The slow food-inspired restaurant, outdoor heated pool with mountain views and a Zen garden complete this sublime hotel that consistently surprises.

Italian treehouse hotel My Arbor has an indoor-outdoor pool, four saunas, a Turkish steam room, walk-in cold plunge and an outdoor jacuzzi with infinity views of the mountains. The two-level spa takes up 27,000 square feet, and from 3.30 every afternoon, it's where you'll find everyone. Once you're on the lower floor, you won't recognise another guest, because you will all be naked, in the most northern-European and body-positive way. Towels are allowed, swimsuits are not.
