Mandarin Oriental announced on June 22, 2026, its anticipated return to the Philippines, signaling a significant uplift for Southeast Asia's luxury travel sector. The acclaimed hotel group will launch Mandarin Oriental Makati, Manila in December 2026, ending its 14-year absence from the capital.

This reopening places Manila alongside global luxury hubs like the United Kingdom, Italy, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia, as noted by Travel And Tour World. Located in Makati City's financial district, overlooking Ayala Triangle Gardens, the property targets international leisure and business travelers seeking premium accommodation.

The 275-key hotel will feature expansive guestrooms and suites, including a two-bedroom Presidential Suite. Guests can expect five distinct dining venues offering Cantonese, Filipino, Chinese, and international cuisines. A dedicated spa and wellness floor will provide Filipino-inspired treatments.

Our take: Mandarin Oriental's re-entry into Manila is a strong indicator of renewed investor confidence in the Philippine luxury market. While the brand's return is noteworthy, the true test will be its ability to consistently deliver on the elevated service and distinct local character it promises, especially as competition in the region intensifies. The blend of international luxury with local identity is critical for success.
