This week, Soneva, a brand synonymous with Maldivian luxury, continues to draw accolades. Many travelers and writers routinely recommend Soneva properties for their initial Maldivian experience, according to Travel + Leisure. The collection, which boasts three distinct island resorts, openly positions itself as the originator of "barefoot luxury."

The journey to a Soneva property typically begins at Malé Velana International Airport, followed by a transfer to a private seaplane lounge. From there, guests embark on a seaplane flight to their chosen island. As Travel + Leisure reports, one traveler experienced this firsthand, noting the pre-loaded iPads on board that detailed Soneva's 35-year history, the vision of founders Sonu Shivdasani and Eva Malmstrom, and the brand's core values. The commitment to "barefoot luxury" is apparently so thorough that even the pilots forgo shoes.
