British Pullman Unveils 'Celia', a Cinematic Carriage by Baz Luhrmann for Elevated Rail Journeys

The British Pullman, a distinguished offering from Belmond, is poised to introduce a new private dining and events carriage named 'Celia' in May 2026. This addition, envisioned by renowned filmmaker Baz Luhrmann and Oscar-winning costume and production designer Catherine Martin, aims to bring a cinematic dimension to luxury rail travel within the United Kingdom.

Anirban Bhattacharya of Travel And Tour World reports that 'Celia' is conceived as a 'visual extravaganza', drawing inspiration from Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream fused with Luhrmann’s distinctive theatrical aesthetics. Each segment of the carriage is designed to unfold 'like a scene in a play', guiding passengers through a luxurious lounge bar, a seating area, and a dining room adorned with rich colours and floral motifs. Bhattacharya notes that marquetry woodwork and carefully calibrated lighting contribute to a 'theatrical atmosphere', creating an environment that he describes as both 'modern and timeless'. The design also subtly references the English countryside and vintage railway travel, with enchanting pansy flower motifs woven throughout, inspired by the character Titania.

Catherine Martin collaborated with various partners, including furniture designer Bill Cleyndert and marquetry specialists Dunn & Son.
