Mandarin Oriental Geneva Taps Veteran Wildhaber as Next General Manager

This week, Mandarin Oriental announced Christian Wildhaber's appointment as General Manager of its Geneva property, effective September 1, 2026. Wildhaber, originally from Vevey, Switzerland, brings nearly three decades of luxury hospitality experience to the role, having traversed Europe, the Middle East, and Asia-Pacific. Hospitality ON notes this move sees him returning to his home country after leading Mandarin Oriental, Jakarta since August 2025.

Wildhaber's career trajectory is notable for its breadth and depth. He started as a cooking apprentice in Montreux, ascending to executive chef positions at Kempinski properties in Beijing and Marrakech. His focus then shifted to Food & Beverage, followed by a significant tenure with the Langham group across Hong Kong, Sydney, and Shenzhen from 2008 to 2015. His Mandarain Oriental journey began in 2016 as Hotel Manager for Mandarin Oriental, Guangzhou. He then assumed a more substantial role in 2019, overseeing Mandarin Oriental Palace, Luzern. His primary mandate there involved renovating, repositioning, and transforming the former Belle Époque palace hotel, a project that culminated in its reopening in September 2022. After his impactful six years in Lucerne, Mandarin Oriental announced Wildhaber's transfer to Jakarta in August 2025, citing his international experience and operational expertise in hotel transformations and openings.
