Announced June 10, 2026, Mandarin Oriental confirmed its return to Manila with the forthcoming Mandarin Oriental Makati, Manila, slated for a December 2026 opening. The new property will feature 275 rooms and suites, a comprehensive spa and wellness floor, five distinct dining and bar venues, and various event spaces.
Rising above Ayala Triangle Gardens, a two-hectare park at the intersection of Makati Avenue, Ayala Avenue, and Paseo de Roxas, the new 98.7-meter-tall hotel marks more than a new luxury address. It signifies the Mandarin Oriental's return to a city where it operated from 1976 to 2014.
For nearly four decades, the original Mandarin Oriental Manila was a recognized urban gathering place. LATTE Australia reports that the new iteration is reimagined for a new generation of global travelers, creatives, and business leaders, aiming to introduce a contemporary expression of Filipino luxury through craftsmanship, innovation, and the Group’s signature service.
Laurent Kleitman, Group Chief Executive of Mandarin Oriental, remarked, as quoted by LATTE Australia, that "our return to Manila marks an exciting new chapter for Mandarin Oriental." He also added, "The Philippines is one of Southeast Asia’s most vibrant and culturally rich nations, offering a compelling blend of heritage, creativity and global ambition. This hotel will capture the essence of destination, bringing together exceptional design, immersive experiences and our legendary service to create a distinctive reflection of Manila’s energy and character."
What this means: This move solidifies Mandarin Oriental's strategic growth in Southeast Asia. The brand aims to strengthen its presence in key gateway cities and deepen its connection with one of the most dynamic travel markets globally, as noted by Kleitman.
