Three Michelin Keys

Three Michelin Keys: Every Top-Tier Hotel in the World

Three Michelin Keys is the maximum hotel award from the Michelin Guide's anonymous inspectors — the equivalent of three Michelin Stars in the dining guide. Fewer than 150 properties worldwide hold the rating; each is judged not just on craft but on whether the hotel is itself a reason to travel.

Below: every Three-Key property in our catalogue, with editor notes on signature suites, spa floors and the moments where the rating earns its weight.

The Editors Answer

Frequently asked

How many Three Michelin Key hotels are there?
As of the 2026 Michelin Guide selection, fewer than 150 hotels worldwide hold the maximum Three Keys. The list is reviewed annually and a property losing a Key (or gaining one) is news enough to make front pages in the hospitality trade.
What does Three Michelin Keys mean?
Three Keys signals that the hotel is itself a destination — the journey, the architecture, the staff culture and the sense of place combine into something extraordinary the inspectors believe is worth crossing the world for. One Key marks a very special stay; Two, exceptional; Three, extraordinary.
Are Three Michelin Key hotels worth the price?
By definition, Three-Key inspectors say the answer is yes — but the rating measures experiential excellence, not value calculus. Nightly rates at Three-Key houses typically start above €1,500 and routinely exceed €5,000 in peak season. The Key tells you the floor of the experience, not the floor of the bill.
When does the Michelin Guide announce the Key list?
The Michelin Guide releases its annual hotel Keys selection in rolling country-by-country announcements between February and November, with the master list refreshed each spring. New inductions and withdrawals are published on the Guide's site as they're confirmed.
