Minor Hotels, a global force in luxury hospitality, announced on April 8, 2026, the initial signings for its Anantara Hotels & Resorts brand in India. The expansion includes the Anantara Zanti Coorg Resort, projected for a 2028 opening, and the Anantara Kolkata Hotel, targeting a 2032 debut. These properties mark Anantara's first resort and first urban hotel respectively within the country.
The 69-key Anantara Zanti Coorg Resort will introduce Anantara's immersive luxury to the UNESCO-recognized Western Ghats. Situated near Madikeri, Coorg, the design, by Sri Lankan architect Channa Daswatte — a protégé of the influential Geoffrey Bawa — will reflect the region's natural beauty, coffee heritage, and Kodava culture. Amenities are planned to include four distinct dining venues, a swimming pool, a lobby lounge and library, an Anantara Spa and wellness center, a fitness studio, meeting spaces, and a children's club.
Zanti Hospitality Chairman, Bimal Desai, indicates a commitment to delivering authentic experiences that integrate guests with Coorg's rich cultural and natural environment, as reported by Hospitality Net — Latest News. William Heinecke, Founder and Chairman of Minor International, parent company of Minor Hotels, echoed this sentiment, stating that Coorg's natural beauty exemplifies India's potential for experiential luxury, aligning perfectly with the Anantara brand’s vision to create distinctive stays honoring local culture.
Our take: Minor Hotels’ ambitious target of 50 properties in India within a decade positions Anantara for significant growth in a market increasingly hungry for sophisticated luxury. The choice of Coorg, a less-trodden yet stunning destination, for a resort, and Kolkata, a major cultural hub, for an urban entry, demonstrates a shrewd understanding of India's diverse luxury travel landscape. These openings are not just about adding keys; they are about defining Anantara's presence in a critical emerging market.
