NORTH SHORE, Kauai (KHON2) -- Even though parts of Kauai could take years to recover from Hurricane Lowell, tourism leaders there want to make sure visitors know the island is open and welcome those who remain respectful.

A key piece of the island's North Shore re-opened Monday, Sept. 28, which industry leaders said is another big step in their road to recovery.

One Hotel Hanalei Bay is one of the luxury hotels on Kauai's North Shore.

252 rooms and 22 acres of beachfront property and officially reopened Monday, after shutting down for more than 2 weeks because it had no power after Hurricane Lowell.

"It is great to be back into the business of what we do here at 1 Hotel Hanalei Bay," said Alexis Eaton, 1 Hotel Hanalei Bay Director of Marketing & Communications.

"We're looking forward to welcoming our arriving guests."

Lowell ravaged the island on Sept. 7, and while some areas are still recovering, and could be for a while, county tourism leaders said having the North Shore slowly come back is a huge boost for the industry.

"We rely so heavily on tourism that we would love to have them back sooner rather than later," said Keila Colobong, Hawaii Lodging & Tourism Association Kauai Executive Director.

"There's people having to file for unemployment because their resorts are closed and things like that. It'll be nice to have that back to normal sooner rather than later."
