The Mandarin Oriental, Lago di Como, a stalwart along the fabled shoreline, has confirmed its seasonal reopening, effective May 7, 2026. This relaunch introduces a reimagined restaurant space, L'ARIA, alongside new signature spa treatments and a 'La Primavera in Lake Como' accommodation package, according to Hospitality Net of Hospitality Net.

Hospitality Net of Hospitality Net reports that the architectural firm Herzog & de Meuron oversaw the restyling of L'ARIA, with a focus on enhancing existing spaces and improving their functionality. This follows earlier restoration efforts on the resort's iconic floating pool and other key areas, including The Spa, NAMI Cafe, and the bistro within the historic Villa Roccabruna.

The interiors of L'ARIA are defined by a warm, tactile palette, Hospitality Net writes, incorporating Venetian terrazzo-style flooring with Italian marble and polished dark woods. Fabrics in old-rose tones and details inspired by the surrounding gardens contribute to what they describe as 'an intimate, sophisticated atmosphere'. An elegant sculptural counter serves as a social focal point, transitioning from a breakfast buffet setting to an aperitivo bar. The spaces flow from the veranda to the panoramic terrace and a lakeside greenhouse, with a striking ceiling clad in pressed cast glass and brass elements designed to reflect light, creating 'an ever-changing luminous effect'.

Executive Chef Massimiliano Blasone curates the dining experience at L'ARIA, which spans breakfast to dinner. Hospitality Net notes that his cuisine artfully blends local flavors with Eastern techniques, featuring dishes cooked on the robata — a traditional Japanese grill — selections of raw fish, light tempura, and Italian classics presented 'with a contemporary twist'. The culinary journey is further enriched by a collection of traditionally handcrafted ceramics from a local artisan, inspired by the lake's natural elements. Beyond L'ARIA, the resort offers CO.MO Bar & Bistrot, described as 'the place to be on Lake Como' for its contemporary cuisine and extensive cocktail list. The NAMI Cafe, with its stylish lakefront setting, provides Asian-inspired cuisine and healthy, comforting options.

The Spa at Mandarin Oriental, Lago di Como has introduced four new signature treatments developed in collaboration with 111SKIN, a brand founded by plastic and reconstructive surgeon Dr. Yannis Alexandrides, Hospitality Net reports. Highlights include the 'Black Diamond Non-Surgical Lift Facial', lauded for its ability to smooth, brighten, and redefine facial contours, and the 'Reparative Longevity Facial', which nourishes and rebalances the skin. Complementing these are the 'Even Glow Sculpting Facial', a brightening treatment, and the 'Cryo Radiance Facial', a revitalizing ritual employing cryotherapy to stimulate microcirculation and reduce signs of fatigue. These additions, they note, reflect the resort's innovative approach to wellness, combining visible results with a 'deeply regenerating sensory dimension'.

Our take: The deliberate integration of Herzog & de Meuron's design vision with Massimiliano Blasone's culinary direction and a refined 111SKIN spa partnership signals Mandarin Oriental's continued commitment to elevating its European portfolio. The focus on local craftsmanship, as evidenced by the bespoke ceramics at L'ARIA, underscores a trend towards deeper regional engagement within the luxury hospitality sector. The strategic enhancements to key F&B and wellness venues demonstrate a clear understanding of the discerning traveler's current expectations for both aesthetic and restorative distinction.
