Guests increasingly view travel as an opportunity to relax and recharge, seeking out restorative destinations and environments that support their physical, mental and emotional wellbeing throughout the entire stay. As a result, the hospitality industry has experienced a shift in its approach, viewing wellness as an overall operating system rather than just an amenity.
Traditionally associated with specific locations such as spas or fitness centers, wellness as a concept has evolved into a holistic design philosophy that influences the entire guest journey. Designers now aim to create spaces that intuitively support how guests want to feel: Calmer upon arrival, more connected during their stay, better rested at night and genuinely restored when they leave.
These shifts have changed the way hoteliers define luxury, understanding that providing opportunities for rest and relaxation demonstrates an authentic prioritization of guests’ wellbeing. Rather than relying solely on aesthetics, luxury is increasingly defined by comfort, calm, personalization and the quality of the experience. It becomes embedded in the environment through thoughtful, often subtle design decisions that allow guests to naturally slow down. Ultimately, the most successful hospitality environments don’t make wellness feel like a program that guests have to participate in.
ROAM Interior Design’s approach to Nikki Beach Resort & Spa Antigua is an example of this, where the indoor and outdoor areas seamlessly flow throughout the property to immerse guests in the island’s relaxing setting, encouraging them to enjoy the natural beauty and connect with the surrounding landscape. Guestrooms are oriented to maximize the experience, with beds intentionally positioned towards the views and carefully framed sightlines that bring the outdoors in.

Simple but intentional interventions help demonstrate that wellness is central to the resort’s ethos and maintains a narrative of mindfulness and restoration that is carried through various touchpoints.
When wellness is thoughtfully integrated into the design, it creates an emotional connection that guests remember long after their visit. This allows a hotel to advance beyond competing on aesthetics or amenities alone and establishes a distinctive experience and brand identity. Properties that authentically prioritize wellbeing differentiate themselves in a crowded market by offering guests something increasingly valuable: a place where they feel restored, recharged and genuinely cared for.
At Nikki Beach Resort & Spa Antigua, the design prioritizes an authentic Antiguan spirit balanced with the brand’s iconic identity and lifestyle. A strong connection to the beach and water, vibrant social spaces and a relaxed yet elevated approach to hospitality, provides guests with a calming experience that feels seamless yet distinct.
